Dentsply Sirona and AADOCR have introduced a new SCADA research award to support early-career dentist-scientists in dental, oral, and craniofacial biology, with applications opening July 1.
The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR), in partnership with Dentsply Sirona and the SCADA Alumni Association, has announced the launch of the AADOCR SCADA/Dentsply Sirona Research Award. This new initiative offers up to $10,000 to support early-stage dentist-scientists, including SCADA alumni, in advancing their research careers in dental, oral, and craniofacial (DOC) biology.
The award targets post-doctoral scholars and pre-tenure faculty, aiming to foster academic development and research independence. Funds may be used for research projects, infrastructure, or publication efforts. A final report will be required within 12 months of receiving the award.
“At Dentsply Sirona, we are deeply committed to advancing oral healthcare through innovation and discovery,” said Dr Rainer Seemann, chief clinical officer at Dentsply Sirona. “By supporting academic and independent dental research, we empower the next generation of dental professionals to explore new frontiers in oral health.”
“The new award introduces a stable funding source for dentist-scientists and is another example of how the AADOCR, its partners, and the SCADA Alumni Association support research in Dental, Oral, and/or Craniofacial Biology,” said Dr Effie Ioannidou, president of the AADOCR.
Application and Selection Process
A Special Committee of nine members—including SCADA board alumni and IADR/AADOCR representatives—will review submissions based on scholarly merit, originality, commitment to a DOC research career, and personal challenges. Applications open July 1, 2025, and the first recipient will be recognized at the 2026 AADOCR Annual Meeting in San Diego.
Part of a Broader Commitment to Dental Innovation
According to Dentsply Sirona, the award aligns with its sustainability platform, “BEYOND: Taking Action for a Brighter World,” which emphasizes investment in education, innovation, and mentorship to empower the next generation of dental professionals.
