Dentsply Sirona’s 2024 Sustainability Report shows the company has surpassed several 2025 goals early and introduced a new recyclable packaging target for 2030.
Dentsply Sirona has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting early achievement of several environmental, social, and governance goals originally set for 2025, along with the introduction of a new environmental target to make 100% of its packaging recyclable by 2030.
Early achievement of environmental targets
The company reported a 45% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions compared to its 2019 baseline, exceeding its original 15% reduction goal ahead of schedule. Water withdrawal was reduced by 26% compared to 2019 levels, also surpassing the initial 15% target before the 2025 deadline. Dentsply Sirona reaffirmed its commitment to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions across Scopes 1-3 by 2050.
Social and industry engagement progress
Through partnerships with organizations including Smile Train and the FDI World Dental Federation, the company contributed funding, product donations, and volunteer time. It reported enabling over 5.1 million smiles in 2024, bringing the total since 2021 to more than 22 million, with a target of 25 million by 2025.
The company achieved total average gender pay parity across its global workforce one year ahead of plan. In education, Dentsply Sirona recorded more than 221,000 registrations for its clinical education courses, including sustainability-focused curriculum, with participants from 155 countries. Six DS World clinical education events were hosted during the year.
Workplace safety and governance initiatives
The injury and illness prevention rate remained at 0.17 for the second consecutive year, surpassing the original 2025 goal of 0.27. The company also held a Global Quality Day and an Ethics & Compliance Week in 2024.
In governance, Dentsply Sirona completed its first double materiality assessment in alignment with the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and launched a Global Sustainability Policy covering governance, compliance, progress, disclosure, and engagement.
External recognition in 2024
The company’s sustainability initiatives were recognized by Newsweek, which named it among America’s Greenest Companies, and by Sustainalytics, which rated it as a top ESG performer in healthcare. Dentsply Sirona also received awards for workplace culture and community programs from LinkedIn and the Global Good Awards.
“2024 was a year of focused effort and strategic action that resulted in measurable progress across our sustainability priorities,” said Tony Johnson, SVP, Chief Supply Chain Officer and Executive Sponsor for ESG. “From product innovation and emissions reduction to inclusion-focused programs and education, our sustainability progress in 2024 is thanks in no small part to the exceptional talents of our employees and our valuable partnerships with our stakeholders.
