Align Technology has launched the Invisalign System with mandibular advancement and occlusal blocks in North America, expanding its treatment offerings for Class II malocclusion in growing patients.

Align Technology has announced the North American commercial availability of the Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks (MAOB), a new clear aligner-based solution designed to simultaneously advance the mandible and align teeth in growing patients with Class II malocclusions.

New Solution Targets Class II Malocclusion in Youth

The newly available MAOB system is specifically developed for growing patients in late mixed or early permanent dentition (ages 10 to 16). It integrates solid occlusal blocks into the Invisalign System to deliver mandibular advancement, particularly for Class II deep bite and Division 2 patients. According to Align, these occlusal blocks enhance durability, facilitate earlier vertical opening, and support predictable mandibular repositioning.

“This advancement is a direct response to the needs of orthodontic practices and underscores Align’s ongoing commitment to innovation in orthodontics that enhances clinical outcomes and patient experience,” said Srini Kaza, EVP, research and development at Align Technology.

Addressing One of Orthodontics’ Most Common Challenges

Class II malocclusion, defined by mandibular retrusion, affects an estimated 30% to 45% of malocclusion cases globally. Untreated, it can lead to long-term functional and aesthetic issues. MAOB enables practitioners to address these discrepancies during critical growth phases, streamlining treatment that would otherwise require multiple appliances.

“The Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks reflects Align’s continued commitment to expanding the capabilities of the Invisalign System, enabling doctors to treat a wider range of malocclusions with precision and efficiency,” said Sreelakshmi Kolli, EVP, chief product and digital officer.

Clinical Feedback from Early Adopters

Dr Kent Morris, who practices in Cincinnati stated, “I’ve been using MAOB for almost all of my Class II Invisalign patients and it has become the standard of care for Class II treatment in my practice.” Similarly, Dr Don Spillers noted reduced issues compared to other Class II correctors, citing benefits in deep bite cases.

Dr Belinda Weltman of Vancouver reported, “My young patients have found it very easy to transition to this appliance with minimal discomfort, and compliance has been a breeze.”
