TP Orthodontics, La Porte, Ind, has introduced the Originator® Clear Aligner System. The Originator is an aesthetic solution for correcting minor to moderate anterior crowding, spacing, and minor relapse. The system corrects teeth incrementally through a series of clear aligner trays, each one generating up to 0.5 mm of movement. Trays are custom-fabricated and hand-articulated by lab technicians at TP Orthodontics Laboratory Services.

The name of the new system comes from the fact that, according to the company, TP’s founder, H. D. Kesling, DDS, originated the concept of removable tooth aligners when he invented the Tooth Positioner in 1945.

Patients wear Originator aligners sequentially in 3- to 4-week intervals, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. The final aligner tray can be worn as a retainer.
