The company is promoting speaker development programs and partnerships to advance women in the dental profession in observance of International Women’s Day.
Dentsply Sirona is highlighting its initiatives aimed at supporting women in the dental industry, citing a demographic shift that sees women accounting for a growing majority of dental professionals. The company’s efforts include partnerships, speaker development programs, and networking events.
Networking and Community Building
As a founding organization of the Women in Dentistry (WID) Rise breakfast, Dentsply Sirona supported the event at the recent Chicago Midwinter Meeting. The event drew 350 participants, including dentists, hygienists, technicians, and industry professionals, for two panel discussions. A LinkedIn page has been launched to continue the discussions year-round.
“WID Rise’s purpose is to provide opportunity for women in the dental industry to engage, share, inspire, enrich, and elevate one another,” says Melanie Lecours, vice president of commercial operations at Dentsply Sirona, in a release. “While the gender and ethnicity composition of dental school graduates is changing, much of the surrounding industry does not reflect this change. Our goal is to create a platform for authentic, positive connection that empowers greater leadership and influence of women professionals in the field.”
Speaker Development and DSO Partnerships
Dentsply Sirona is investing in programs designed to increase the visibility and leadership of women in dentistry. One such program is the FirstTo50 Women’s Speaker Development Program.
“The realization that sharing my expertise creates a ripple effect of better patient care worldwide was powerful,” says Dr Sara Mahmood, owner of six dental practices in the US and a past participant, in a release. “With their distinctive lived experiences as clinicians, caregivers, and patients, women’s voices are essential to shaping the future of oral healthcare.”
The company also continues its partnership with Women in DSO, an organization focused on empowering women in dental service organizations. As a founding member, Dentsply Sirona is participating in the Women in DSO Empower and Grow Conference and plans to engage women practitioners in future R&D focus groups for product development.
