Dr Dino Cacchiotti discusses how clinical inefficiencies led to the development of the Cx Precoat Box and its impact on orthodontic workflow and patient care.

Dino Cacchiotti, DDS, MS, a practicing orthodontist and founder of Cx Orthodontic Supply, developed the Cx Precoat Box to address inefficiencies he experienced during bracket bonding procedures. In this interview with Orthodontic Products, Cacchiotti shares how time lost during adhesive application led him to create a compact, reusable storage solution that allows assistants to preload brackets. The product, already in use in his practice, has received strong feedback from staff and patients alike for its efficiency, organization, and presentation. He also discusses how the tool fits into daily workflows and why clinician-led innovation is vital for orthodontic product development.

Orthodontic Products: What gap or recurring challenge in your own clinical practice led you to develop the Cx Precoat Box?

Dino Cacchiotti, DDS, MS: I found that the time waiting for assistants to apply adhesive led to issues with isolation from moisture issues, inconsistency with amount and technique of adhesive applied, and led to valuable chair time being lost. I wanted a way to streamline this step and make it more predictable, efficient and consistent, both for my team and my patients.

OP: When you tested the system in real practice settings, what feedback stood out most from your assistants or colleagues?

Cacchiotti: The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with the biggest takeaway being the noticeable time savings. Not only that, but it was noted how it was a sleek, compact solution that could be presented to patients.

OP: Beyond time savings, have you noticed any effects on workflow, team coordination, or patient satisfaction?

Cacchiotti: Absolutely! Patients often comment on the look of the Cx Precoat Box. For orthodontic assistants, they love the organization and the ease of delivery of Orthodontic Brackets that it provides. Overall, it’s one of those tools that has a big impact on team coordination and patient experience.

OP: How do you envision orthodontic practices integrating this product into their daily routines — is it a change in process or a simple add-on?

Cacchiotti: It’s a small change to the existing process, but one that creates meaningful improvements. Assistants utilize clinical down time, which every practice has, to accurately apply adhesive prior to starting the bonding procedure at the chair. This simple step helps with accuracy, consistency and saves valuable time.

OP: What kind of support or guidance do you offer to practices that are adopting the Cx Precoat Box for the first time?

Cacchiotti: While the Cx Precoat Box is an easy implementation to the process, my team and I at Cx Orthodontic Supply are available during business hours and often even outside of standard business hours, whether it’s a quick question, phone call or email. We know what it’s like to be in the middle of a busy clinical day and need answers fast, and we are known for our quick responses to our customers!

OP: From your experience, what advantages do practicing orthodontists have when developing products for the profession

Cacchiotti: When products are developed by Industry Providers, there is a trust and relatability factor that is invaluable. We all encounter similar challenges, and that shared perspective makes a big difference. It helps ensure that the solutions we design are practical, relevant and truly meet the needs of everyday orthodontic practice. OP
