The American Association of Orthodontists has made a strategic investment in DentoAI, an AI platform designed to streamline orthodontic case acceptance and documentation.
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) has announced a strategic investment in DentoAI, a company offering an AI-powered case acceptance platform and scribe system designed specifically for orthodontic practices. The move is part of the AAO’s broader Innovation & Transformation Fund initiative.
Focus on Practice Efficiency
DentoAI automates new patient consultation documentation in real time, generating clinical notes, patient-friendly treatment explanations, and referral letters for collaborating doctors. According to the AAO, the technology is designed to reduce administrative tasks and improve treatment coordinator performance.
Founded by AAO Member
DentoAI was founded by AAO member Amanda Cheng, DMD, who serves as chief executive officer. The company’s leadership team includes co-founder Arun Saigal, CTO Don Alvarez, and COO Doreen Hoang.
Part of AAO’s Investment Strategy
“Supporting innovation in the specialty through start-up investments like DentoAI is a key goal for the AAO,” said AAO President Steven Siegel, DMD. “We hope to build a portfolio of up to 10 companies that will help diversify revenue sources for our organization and build partnerships that can add scale and speed to advancing the success of AAO members.”
Investment opportunities are reviewed by a team that includes a venture capital consultant, AAO Strategy & Innovation staff, the AAO Business Development Committee, and other consultants with relevant expertise. Factors such as business model, financial projections, and leadership are considered in the evaluation process.
Ongoing Commitment to Innovation
The AAO’s Innovation & Transformation Fund, established by the House of Delegates in 2019, supports not only startup investments but also new programs, services, and research. Governance of the fund is managed by the AAO Board of Trustees with oversight from the Business Development Committee.
“I’ve been a proud member of the AAO throughout my career,” said Cheng. “We are thrilled to partner with this foundational institution on revolutionizing orthodontics for patients and doctors with breakthrough AI technology.”
