Dentsply Sirona, FDI World Dental Federation, and Smile Train have expanded access to digital cleft care education with two new clinical videos and additional language versions of their online course for dental professionals.
Dentsply Sirona, the FDI World Dental Federation (FDI), and Smile Train have released an expanded set of educational resources to support digital cleft care worldwide. Their jointly developed Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), Digital Dentistry in Cleft Care, is now available in Spanish, French, and Portuguese, in addition to English. The videos are designed to provide comprehensive training for dental professionals treating cleft lip and palate in underserved regions.
Two new training videos focus on clinical workflows
In addition to the multilingual MOOC, the three organizations have released two new instructional videos focused on digital cleft care workflows. The first covers pre-surgical treatment, while the second addresses mixed dentition. Filmed with patients at the Smile Train regional Cleft Leadership Center at Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines Inc, each video runs approximately ten minutes and is hosted on the FDI website.
Interactive tool guides dental professionals through cleft protocols
The initiative also includes a new interactive tool hosted on the FDI platform. This resource is designed to help clinicians apply the digital cleft care protocols developed by the three partners. It guides users through different stages of care and provides centralized access to relevant training materials.
Partners emphasize global access to cleft care training
“Cleft lip and palate affect thousands of children globally each year,” said Marion Par-Weixlberger, vice president corporate communications, PR and brand at Dentsply Sirona. “Together with Smile Train and FDI we are working hard to make that vision happen and to create countless healthy, happy smiles.”
FDI President Dr Greg Chadwick added, “Now we need to make sure that dental professionals from all regions and backgrounds have access to the trainings, so they can deliver life-changing cleft care to their communities.”
Smile Train President and CEO Susannah Schaefer noted, “Expanding access to digital cleft care education means more providers can deliver timely, comprehensive care to children who need it most.”
