The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) will hold its Summer Program for Emerging Academic Leadersfrom July 12 to 15, 2012, at the Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit, Maine.Registration is open for the interactive program geared toward newfaculty in allied, advanced, and predoctoral dental education.
 
ADEA has recreated and refreshed the program for junior faculty memberswho want to plan and implement a successful academic career, most ofwhom are coming from residency or private practice. The 3½-day programcovers topics such as leadership styles, team building, and timemanagement. Lectures, small group discussions, and independent exercisesare designed to immerse participants in content to develop their skillsfor success in higher education.
 
Participants can expect to focus on current major trends and topics inacademic dentistry, develop leadership competencies, plan their owncareer trajectories, discover leadership and professional developmentopportunities, and expand professional networks of colleagues andmentors.
 
Presenters at the program will include Clyde H. Evans, PhD, a SeniorConsultant at the Academy for Academic Leadership; Paula N. O’Neill,MEd, EdD, a tenured professor of Diagnostic Sciences and Associate Deanfor Professional Development and Faculty Affairs at The University ofTexas School of Dentistry at Houston; and Tobias E. Rodriguez, PhD, theVice President for Education, Academy for Academic Leadership (AAL).Prior to joining AAL, Rodriguez served as a faculty member at theLouisiana State University School of Dentistry, where he directednumerous courses and oversaw the student research efforts at the school.
 
While face-to-face instruction ends on July 15, the collaborativelearning experience will continue throughout 2012-2013 via quarterlyvideo conferences offered throughout the year. In addition, attendeesare eligible to earn a total of 30 CE credits for participation in theprogram and the required post-program quarterly webinar sessions.
