Critical knowledge and tools will be shared to equip dental practitioners to confidently accept and effectively treat patients with disabilities.
According to reports, nearly 1 in 5 people live with a disability in the U.S., representing a significant number who may struggle with physical, intellectual, psychiatric, visual, hearing, or neurological challenges. Providing care to these patients is critical; however, many dental practitioners may not feel comfortable treating this population, as special care dentistry was only added to the dental school curriculum standards in 2006.
Henry Schein Dental will present a six-part webinar series, beginning Tuesday, November 17 to address these concerns in the industry. Join Maureen Munnelly Perry, DDS, MPA, professor of special care dentistry and the director of the Center for Advanced Oral Health at ATSU-ASDOH, Mesa, Ariz, for the educational series.
Perry will discuss some of the more common disabilities, effective adaptations for treating these patients, behavior management techniques, and more during the following sessions:
- 11/17/20: Current State & Barriers in Special Care Dentistry
- 12/15/20: Development Disabilities 101: A Primer for the Dental Professional
- 1/21/21: Dental Management of Patients with Cerebral Palsy & Other Neuromuscular Disorders
- 2/18/21: Dental Considerations for Patients with Epilepsy & Seizures
- 3/23/21: Dental Discussion on Intellectual Disabilities Featuring Down Syndrome
- 4/21/21: Autism: What’s New, What’s True & How Do We Provide Care?
Each webinar offers 1 continuing education (CE) credit, $20 per webinar (if you wish to receive CE credit). There is no cost to attend if you do not wish to receive CE credit.
