The session will feature faculty development workshops, a presidential symposium, and plenary sessions. The opening plenary session will feature John Medina, PhD, author of Brain Rules, and affiliate professor of bioengineering at the University of Washington School of Medicine and director of the Brain Center for Applied Learning Research at Seattle Pacific University. Medina, a developmental biologist who studies how the mind reacts to and organizes information, will focus his presentation on how students really learn and how best to engage them throughout the learning process.
The meeting is designed for dental educators and administrators, as well as students, residents, and fellows. Educational sessions will focus on curricular change with a focus on interprofessional education, various pedagogical approaches especially related to learning how to teach to inspire and motivate students as learners and future professionals, and methods of effective reflection and positive self-assessment.
