MichaelSherman optMichael W. Sherman, BSc, DDS, MSc, MBA, of Sherman Orthodontics in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada, was elected president of the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists (GLAO) at its annual meeting in October in Indianapolis. The GLAO represents more than 1,300 members in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania (west of the Alleghenies), and the Canadian province of Ontario.

Sherman received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Toronto. He continued at the University of Manitoba for his Master of Science degree and orthodontic training. He attended Queen’s University for his MBA.

Sherman served the GLAO as secretary-treasurer for 3 years, vice president, president-elect. Since 2006, he served as delegate to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), and since 2010 he has served as the GLAO representative to the AAO Council on Orthodontic Practice. In addition to being a published author and a public lecturer, Sherman is a past president of the Ontario Association of Orthodontists and a member of both the American Association of Orthodontists as well as the Canadian Association of Orthodontists.
