The new PROMAX water flosser includes SMARTADVANCE mode, which is designed to automatically adjust water intensity over time to improve gum health.

Waterpik has introduced the PROMAX water flosser, a new device featuring SMARTADVANCE mode, which automatically increases water intensity during use. The company states the technology is engineered to help reverse bleeding gums in as little as six weeks.

Automatic Intensity Adjustment

The PROMAX water flosser’s SMARTADVANCE mode is designed to address user hesitation with increasing water pressure. The feature begins at a lower intensity and gradually increases it over time as gum health improves. According to the company, this allows for a deeper and more effective clean by removing the guesswork from intensity selection for the user.

“At Waterpik, we don’t believe gum health should be complicated or uncertain,” says Bart Prins, general manager at Waterpik, in a release. “PROMAX represents a step change in oral care technology—delivering effective results at home, automatically.”

Design and Usability

Beyond the automatic intensity adjustment, the PROMAX includes several updates to its design and functionality. The device features a digital LED control panel and a dual user memory function that saves personalized settings for two users. It also utilizes QUIETPULSE technology, which is engineered to reduce noise without sacrificing performance. The system is housed in a compact countertop design and comes with five specialized flossing tips to accommodate multiple dental needs.

Clinical Application

The device was designed with input from dental professionals to target plaque bacteria where brushing and string floss may not reach. According to Waterpik, the PROMAX can remove up to 99.9% of plaque from treated areas and is more effective at reducing gum bleeding than string flossing. Because the device is less technique-sensitive than traditional string floss, the company notes it is also highly effective for users with dental work, including braces, bridges, or implants.

“Bleeding gums are the most common concern I see in practice,” says Dr Chris Strandburg, DDS, a Waterpik spokesperson, in a release. “PROMAX SMARTADVANCE Mode removes the friction by advancing water intensity gradually and automatically for the user, making it easier to achieve healthier gums.”

The PROMAX water flosser is available on Amazon and Walmart for $149.99.
