Chun-Hsi Chung, BDS, DMD, MS

The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) recently installed Chun-Hsi Chung, BDS, DMD, MS, (pictured), of Bryn Mawr, Pa, as president-elect for the 2016-2017 term, while Larry Tadlock, DDS, MS, PC, of Colleyville, Tex, was installed as secretary-treasurer. The two were installed at the ABO President’s Dinner, held in conjunction with the 2016 American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Annual Session in Orlando, Fla, on May 3.

Meanwhile, Timothy Trulove, DMD, MS, of Montgomery, Ala, was elected to serve as director at the ABO’s House of Delegates meeting, convened on April 29, 2016 in Orlando.

Each ABO director represents one of the eight constituent organizations of the AAO and serves an 8-year term, which culminates in the position of the president. The ABO directors are responsible for establishing policy with regard to the board certification of specialists in orthodontics. During his tenure as an ABO director, Chung has represented the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists.

Chung is the Chauncey M. F. Egel Endowed Chair of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Chung, who has been board certified since 2002, serves as chair of the ABO’s Written Examination Committee and is a member of the Policy Committee. He is the ABO’s liaison to the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. In addition, he is serving on the planning committee for the 2018 AAO Annual Session, which will be held in Washington, DC. He is the co-chair of the Doctors’ Program for this upcoming Annual Session. He is also a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists and is a consultant to the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

During his tenure as an ABO director, Tadlock has represented the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists (SWSO). Tadlock is a member of the ABO Clinical Examination Committee and the Policy Committee. In addition, he is the ABO’s liaison to the Commission on Dental Accreditation site visitors.

Tadlock is the Program Director of the Department of Orthodontics at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry and is in part-time practice in Keller, Tex. He earned his dental degree from the Baylor College of Dentistry in 1984 and earned his orthodontic certificate and master’s degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 1988. He has been board certified by the ABO since 1995. Tadlock is a past president of the SWSO.

Trulove, who represents the Southern Association of Orthodontists (SAO), will become president of the ABO in 2023. As an ABO director, he is serving on the ABO’s Clinical Examination Committee and the Policy Committee. He has been board certified since 1996.

Since then, Trulove has been in private practice limited to orthodontics in Montgomery and is a staff orthodontist for the Children’s Rehabilitation Service, Cleft Palate Clinic. In addition, he is an adjunct professor of orthodontics at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham, and is an instructor for the Charles H. Tweed Foundation. He earned his dental degree from UAB and his master’s degree from the University of Iowa. He is a past president of the SAO.
