Nominate an active or retired California-licensed dental professional who demonstrates significant leadership and outstanding contributions.

The California Dental Association (CDA) Foundation is now accepting nominations for the 2020 Humanitarian Award. April 1 through June 30, CDA members or component dental society executive directors can nominate a California-licensed dental professional who has demonstrated significant leadership and outstanding contributions in the field of dentistry.

The Humanitarian Award recognizes one individual for one of the following:

  • A lifetime of volunteer commitment and leadership that have had a broad impact on oral health and the improvement of the human condition.
  • Actions that have enabled the dental profession to respond more fully to the needs of people at the local, state, national or international level.

Introduced in 2008, the Humanitarian Award is given annually by the Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CDA, to support dental professionals and community-based organizations across the state. The 2020 award recipient will be recognized at the CDA House of Delegates in November and in various CDA and Foundation publications.

Nominees may be active or retired and should exemplify specific humanitarian ideals and attributes, including:

  • Contributes significantly to alleviate human suffering and improve the quality of life and oral health of those served.
  • Demonstrates a lifetime of outstanding humanitarian volunteer accomplishments that bring honor to the profession.
  • Establishes a legacy that is of ongoing value and benefit to others.
  • Shows a lifetime of commitment to humanity and selflessness in regard to direct personal or organizational gain or profit.
  • Creates interventions and awareness about the impact that illness has on the physical, emotional, social and spiritual lives of patients and their families.

This year, nominators can also take advantage of a mobile-friendly application. The Foundation advises that applicants review the updated application questions before beginning the nomination process.
