Former ADA President Dr Greg Chadwick has been elected FDI president at the recent FDI General Assembly.

The FDI World Dental Federation elected new leadership positions at its first virtual session of the FDI General Assembly, FDI 2021 World Dental Congress-Special Edition,

The General Assembly voted and elected former American Dental Association (ADA) president Greg Chadwick, DDS, MS, as the FDI president-elect. Chad Gehani, DDS, also a former ADA president, was named FDI council and former ADA vice president Irene Marron-Tarrazzi, DMS, MS, was named e FDI membership liaison and support committee.

Chadwick has 20 years of leadership experience, serving for 6 years as speaker of the FDI general assembly. He is the dean of East Carolina University’s School of Dental Medicine, served as ADA president from 2001-2002, and was a trustee from 1996-2000.

“As a practitioner and as an educator, Dr. Chadwick fundamentally understands the importance of our profession from every angle,” said ADA President Dan Klemmedson, DMD, MD.

Gehani has 8 years of FDI service and more than 20 years of FDI attendance. He is immediate past president of the ADA and has been an associate clinical professor of endodontics at NYU for 32 years.

“When the COVID pandemic hit, Dr. Gehani steered the ADA through one of the most challenging times dentistry has possibly ever seen. His leadership during a time of crisis was unparalleled,” said Klemmedson.

Marron-Tarrazzi was the youngest ADA vice president and served as executive board, FDI section – Women Dentists Worldwide and Women in Dentistry Project – FDI Dental Practice Committee.

“Dr. Irene Marron-Tarrazzi is a rising star in organized dentistry, bringing fresh perspectives, energy, and innovative action to our profession,” said Klemmedson.

The FDI World Dental Federation comprises about 200 national dental associations, including the ADA, from more than 130 countries.
