Great Lakes Orthodontics Ltd has launched an innovative process to digitally design and fabricate occlusal splints. Models are laser-scanned, contact points are identified, and disclusion ramps are defined. The software creates 3D splints with even centric contacts and anterior ramps with canine guidance. The models are acrylic-covered, then machine-trimmed to .001 inch. Digital splints are perfectly smooth, allowing teeth to move freely and not lock in position, according to the company.
