Preliminary findings from a single-practice analysis indicate shorter treatment times and fewer office visits for clear aligner patients using the light therapy device.
Biolux Technologyannounced preliminary results from an ongoing clinical evaluation conducted in the office of Todd Dickerson, DDS, MS,indicating that its OrthoPulse near-infrared light therapy system improves the efficiency and predictability of Invisalign treatment.
Clinical Evaluation Findings
The analysis compared 23 consecutive Invisalign cases treated with OrthoPulse to 22 consecutive cases treated without the device within the same orthodontic practice.
Initial findings showed a 55% shorter average treatment time for the OrthoPulse group, averaging 13 months compared to 28 months for the benchmark group. Patients using the device also had 21% fewer office visits, averaging nine visits versus 12.
The data indicated a reduction in finishing aligners, with the OrthoPulse group requiring an average of 24 compared to 33 in the benchmark group. Refinements were also lower, averaging 1.3 versus 1.5. While both groups began with a similar number of initial aligner stages (28 versus 30), the total number of stages after refinements was 52 for the OrthoPulse group and 62 for the benchmark group.
“These preliminary results are consistent with what we’ve observed clinically and reinforce why OrthoPulse has become part of our standard of care for aligner therapy,” says Dickerson, founder of Dickerson Orthodontics, in a release.
Additional cases are currently being collected and analyzed as part of the ongoing clinical study.
