Biolase Technology, a dental laser company, has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA to market its ezlase™, a soft-tissue diode laser system.

The ezlase diode laser provides clean cutting and fast hemostasis, with absorption in the hemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin, according to the company.  Its features include procedure-based presets accessed via an iPod®-like navigation wheel or color touch screen, an ultralight fiber handpiece, innovative low-cost disposable tips, an infinite pulse combination that delivers laser energy by dose, and a wireless Bluetooth® foot pedal.

The system is based on an optimized, 940 nm laser with pulse characteristics that make soft-tissue procedures minimally invasive.

The company plans to launch the ezlase laser system at the upcoming Chicago Dental Society mid-winter meeting in February 2007.
