The Henry Schein Cares Global Student Outreach project which will assist in narrowing the disparity in the delivery of oral health care services and information in underserved communities, both in the United States and abroad.

“We are absolutely delighted by this gift,” said Charles N. Bertolami, DDS, DMedSc, the Herman Robert Fox Dean of the NYUCD, in an announcement about the gift. “Over the years, Henry Schein and NYU have partnered on a number of outreach projects, particularly in Tanzania. With this latest gift, NYU will have the funds not only to maintain and expand its highly successful outreach model, which provides assessment, complete treatment, and ongoing preventive services to underserved children throughout the world, but also to publicize this model broadly in order to make it a catalyst for replication by other academic dental centers. In doing so, not only will more students be able to provide more care for vulnerable populations than could be provided by NYU alone, but more future practitioners at other dental schools will also be sensitized to access issues and to their responsibility as dentists to provide care and advocacy for underserved populations.”

Stanley M. Bergman, chairman and CEO of Henry Schein Inc, said, “At Henry Schein we believe that we should give back to the communities in which we serve, and by doing so, we will ‘do well by doing good.’ We look for ways to participate in collaborative public-private partnerships around the world that address the complex healthcare challenges that we all face. This gift to the NYU College of Dentistry is a great example of collaboration to develop innovative ways of expanding access to care for those who need it most.”
