John F. Freihaut, DDS, oral and maxillofacial surgeon of Marietta, GA, received the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons’ 2006 Outstanding Fellow/Member Political Activist Award during the association’s 88th Annual Meeting in San Diego on October 3 to October 7.
A long-time member of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Political Action Committee, Freihaut has been an advocate of patients’ rights in the state and federal legislatures for most of his 30-year career. As the president of Cobb County Dental Society in 1988, he subsequently served as president of the Northwestern District Dental Society in 1994, and the Georgia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons from 1996 to 1998. From 2001-2002, Freihaut was president of the Georgia Dental Association. Most recently, he was appointed to the Georgia Health Strategies Council by Gov. Sonny Purdue.
Other professional activities include participation on many AAOMS, state and regional dental society committees. He has also served in the AAOMS House of Delegates and the ADA House of Delegates for many years.
Freihaut received his pre-dental education and DDS degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI.
