In conjunction with National Orthodontic Health Month, and in time for Halloween, [removed]Smiles Change Lives (SCL)[/removed], Kansas City, Mo, is sponsoring [removed]candy exchange events[/removed] throughout the country to give kids healthy alternatives to Halloween treats and to allow them to give back to others. For the event, SCL partners with its orthodontic provider partners who host the events.

A candy exchange allows trick-or-treaters to surrender some of their Halloween candy in exchange for healthy alternatives. The candy will then be shipped to troops overseas or local charities. The events include free games and activities for children and families.

"We’re looking forward to our second year participating in the SCL Candy Exchange," said Zachary Faber, DDS, an SCL provider from Long Island, NY. "We collected more than 1,000 pounds of candy last year and our community got very involved in the spirit of this event."

Last year the SCL’s candy exchange events collected a total of 6,000 pounds of candy. This year, the SCL hopes to collect 10,000 pounds.
