The Dawson Academy, St Petersburg, Fla, is offering a new hands-on course on how to educate patients during examinations and how to recognize the flaw in any smile.
 
The new 21/2-day course, "Comprehensive Examination and Records," will be taught by John Crahman, DDS, and Glenn DuPont, DDS, at both The Dawson Academy in St Petersburg, Fla, and at the Mid-Atlantic Center in Chesapeake, Va. The course will be held on the following days:

• September 11–13, 2008 (Mid-Atlantic Center);

• October 16–18, 2008 (Dawson Academy);
 
• October 23–25, 2008 (Cranham only, Mid-Atlantic Center);
 
• November 10–12, 2008 (DuPont only, Dawson Academy); and
 
• November 20–22, 2008 (DuPont only, Dawson Academy).
 
The course is limited to 20 students, and students completing the course will receive a total of 20 continuing education credits.

This hands-on course will provide the students the technical and managerial skills to institute a comprehensive examination process. Attendees will learn procedural skills and get tips on training the staff on the parts of the evaluation process that can be delegated. All aesthetic, functional, biological, and structural issues will also be addressed. The course will place special emphasis on scheduling and implementing the complete examination appointment in a busy practice. Students will also learn how to gather all the necessary information that make up a complete patient record so that they may implement what they’ve learned into their practice immediately. Tuition is $3,400 per student.
