The Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education held its 19th biennial alumni association meeting at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Fla, on October 11–14. At this meeting, The Pankey Institute and Alumni Association celebrated the 25 years of leadership of Irwin M. Becker, DDS, the Institute’s emeritus chairman of education, and recently retired executive director Christian B. Sager.

Outgoing Alumni Association president Dale A. Sorenson, DDS, of Newburgh, Ind, and incoming president Edmond O. Mukamal, DMD, of Woodmere, NY, planned a program that included 2 days of clinical and behavioral presentations by members of the Academy of Pankey Scholars. During the final day, Peter E. Dawson, DDS, Becker, and Sager provided historical perspective and talked about leadership and ethics.

More than 200 past and present faculty of The Pankey Institute were honored, including members of both the resident and visiting faculty. The 37 dentists who comprise the Academy of Pankey Scholars and their office teams were recognized during this meeting. The Pankey Scholar program is the highest level of achievement at The Pankey Institute.

Founded in 1972, The Pankey Institute is a nonprofit organization that promotes optimal oral health care through advanced continuing education for dentists. It was the first institute of its kind and attracts dentists from 42 nations to its educational programs. It is estimated that nearly 20,000 dentists and specialists have attended its courses and now serve millions of patients worldwide.
