Planmeca has introduced its first handheld intraoral X-ray unit, the ProX GO, with plans to begin sales in the U.S. market.

Planmeca recently debuted its first handheld intraoral X-ray device, Planmeca ProX GO. The company showecased the new device at recent International Dental Show (IDS) in Cologne, with an eye on a later sales launch beginning in the U.S. market.

Technical Specifications and Design

According to the company, Planmeca ProX GO combines high image quality with outstanding usability and productivity. The device has a fixed 70 kV and 3 mA tube as well as 0.3 mm focal spot. It reportedly features an intuitive user interface and well-balanced design make the device straightforward to use, hold, and aim.

Portability and Flexibility

The company describes the device, which weighs just over 2 kg, as lightweight and compact and says it is completely installation-free, making it the ideal choice for operatories where space is tight or where fixed installations are otherwise not an option. The battery life enables up to 300 exposures in a single charge, and the device can also be shared between operatories, eliminating the need for multiple X-ray devices.

Workflow and Safety Features

The company says chairside use enables a faster imaging workflow and can improve both patient communication and comfort, as the user can stay in the room and explain the imaging procedure as it happens. To ensure patient and user protection, the system comes with both internal shielding against leakage radiation as well as an external backscatter shield against scattered radiation.

Software Integration and Market Outlook

As with all Planmeca imaging devices, Planmeca ProX GO also combines with the Planmeca Romexis all-in-one software, which offers a full range of tools for dental diagnostics and treatment planning.

“Planmeca ProX GO represents just the kind of creative thinking and flexible, future-ready solutions that we want to bring to the dental industry,” states Timo Müller, vice president of Planmeca’s X-ray division. “There is a real demand for versatile portable products like this, which enable high quality imaging in fast-paced and changing environments, such as busy clinics, mobile operatories, and emergency situations. We’re truly excited to be bringing yet another tech and usability innovation to dental professionals all over the world, starting in the U.S. market.”
