The new device features a retractable hook designed to help patients remove clear aligners more easily and hygienically.
AlignerOff LLC has announced the availability of the AlignerOff Retractable Aligner Removal Tool, an accessory designed to simplify the daily removal of clear aligners.
The product was created by Inma Steffe, RDH, MS, a registered dental hygienist with more than 20 years of clinical and educational experience. Steffe developed the tool to address a common challenge among clear aligner patients: removing tight-fitting trays without relying on their fingernails or repeatedly placing their fingers inside their mouths.
Tool Functionality and Design
The device features a long-reach hook that helps patients access the posterior edge of an aligner, where removal typically begins. Patients can use the hook to pull downward when removing an upper aligner or upward when removing a lower aligner.
After use, the hook retracts into the body of the tool, keeping it protected during storage. Its integrated design makes it convenient to carry in a purse, pocket, travel bag, or aligner care kit without leaving the hook exposed.
Supporting Treatment Compliance
By reducing the need to use fingernails or place fingers inside the mouth, the tool provides a more convenient and hygienic removal experience. It is intended to assist patients with attachments, limited dexterity, manicured nails, or difficulty removing tightly fitted trays. The hook can also assist with the removal of orthodontic elastics.
“Patients are expected to wear their aligners consistently, but the simple act of removing them can be challenging, particularly at the beginning of treatment. I created the retractable AlignerOff tool to make that daily step easier, more hygienic, and less stressful for patients,” says Steffe, founder and inventor of AlignerOff, in a release.
Materials and Availability
The tool is made from food-grade ABS material and is currently available in blue and black, with a lavender option coming soon. It is protected by US Design Patent No D1,054,561 S, with additional utility patent protection pending.
