Dr.-Chun-Hsi-Chung-2017The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) recently installed its 2017-2018 officers. Chun-Hsi Chung, BDS, DMD, MS (pictured), of Bryn Mawr, Pa, was installed as president during the ABO’s President’s Dinner, held in conjunction with the 2017 Annual Session of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) in San Diego, Calif.

The other officers installed during the event were Larry Tadlock, DDS, MS, PC, of Colleyville, Tex, as president-elect; Nicholas D. Barone, DDS, of Lincoln, RI, as secretary/treasurer; and Steven Dugoni, DMD, MSD, of South San Francisco, Calif, as immediate past president.

Chung is the Chauncey M. F. Egel Endowed Chair of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Chung, who has been board certified since 2002, serves as a member of the ABO’s Executive Committee. He is the ABO’s liaison to the AAO, the College of Diplomates of the ABO, the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, the Council on Dental Education and Licensure, the Graduate Orthodontic Residents Program, the World Federation of Orthodontists, and the Society of Educators. In addition, he is serving on the planning committee for the 2018 AAO Annual Session, which will be held in Washington, DC. He also serves as the co-chair of the Doctors’ Program for the 2018 AAO Annual Session. He is a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists and is a consultant to the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

During his tenure as an ABO director, Chung has represented the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists.

Tadlock is the Program Director of the Department of Orthodontics at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry and is in part-time practice in Keller, Tex. He earned his dental degree from the Baylor College of Dentistry in 1984 and earned his orthodontic certificate and master’s degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 1988. He has been board certified by the ABO since 1995.

Tadlock is a member of Angle Southwest, the southwest component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists; the AAO; the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists (SWSO); and the Texas Association of Orthodontists, among many other organizations. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists; a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics; and a member of the Texas Orthodontic Study Club, formerly known as the Tweed Orthodontic Study Group of Texas. He is a past president of the SWSO and the University of Texas Orthodontic Alumni Association. He has received numerous awards for contributions to the orthodontic specialty. The most notable include the 2016 Martin Dewey Memorial Award from the SWSO, the 2009 Yellen-Schoverling Award from the University of Texas Orthodontic Alumni Association, and the 2008 Earl E. and Wilma S. Shepard Award of Distinguished Service from the ABO.

During his tenure as an ABO director, Tadlock has represented the SWSO. Dr. Tadlock is the ABO’s liaison to the Commission on Dental Accreditation site visitors.

Barone earned his doctorate in dentistry from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1975 and earned his certificate in orthodontics from the Medical College of Virginia at the Virginia Commonwealth University in 1977. Barone practices with his son, Nicholas P. Barone, DMD, in North Providence and Smithfield, RI, and has been active in numerous dental and orthodontic organizations. He is a past president of the AAO Foundation, the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, the Rhode Island Dental Association, the Rhode Island Association of Orthodontists, and the Providence District Dental Society. Barone served on the Rhode Island Senate Oral Health Commission from 2000 to 2004. He is also a member of Angle East, a component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He is a fellow of the International College of Dentists and is board certified.

During his tenure as an ABO director, Barone has represented the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists. Barone is chair of the ABO Clinical Examination Committee, and he is a member of the Executive and Policy Committees.

Dugoni, who has been in private practice since 1981, received his dental degree from Tufts University and his master’s degree in orthodontics from the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. He has taught at the university for more than 35 years, most recently as an adjunct clinical professor and director of the Mixed Dentition Clinic in the Department of Orthodontics. He has been board certified by the ABO for 28 years.

During his tenure as an ABO director, Dugoni has represented the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PCSO). As immediate past president of the ABO, Dugoni will continue to serve on the Written, Certification, and the New and Younger Members Committees.
