The John W. Stanford New Investigator Award encourages research related to the use of standards in dental research or clinical application.

The American Dental Association (ADA) is currently accepting applications for the 2020 John W. Stanford New Investigator Award. Applications are due December 15, 2020.

The award encourages dentists and dental students to conduct standards-based research and standards development. The winner receives a $1,000 honorarium, plus airfare and accommodations to present their winning research at the ADA Standards Committee on Dental Products annual meeting scheduled for July 2021 in Boston.

According to the ADA, dental students, dentists who earned their dental degree since 2015, and dentists pursuing an additional degree or specialty may apply. Submissions must include an original research paper or poster that addresses some aspect of the use of standards in dental research or clinical application.

The award is named for Stanford who was a 40-year ADA employee credited with establishing the ADA’s current standards program. He died in 2011.
