The legislation is aimed at creating reciprocity among participant states to reduce the barriers to license portability when moving to a different state to work.

The American Dental Association (ADA) is partnering with the Council of State Governments, the Department of Defense, and the American Dental Hygienists Association to develop model legislation for interstate licensure compacts that would create reciprocity among participant states. The legislation is aimed at reducing the barriers to license portability and employment.

The ADA is inviting its members, as well as dental hygienists, dentistry and dental hygiene regulators, and other industry stakeholders to a kickoff meeting, hosted by the Council of State Governments on August 24, 2021, at 2:00 pm ET via Zoom

The meeting will provide attendees with information on the background and aspirations for the project; the form and function of interstate licensure compacts and the compact development process; and the need for license reciprocity in the dentistry and dental hygiene professions.
