Alonso Carrasco-Labra, DDS, MSc, PhD(c), will serve as the director of the Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry for the American Dental Association (ADA). He will lead and supervise projects, programs, and services that meet the Center’s vision of developing and disseminating clinically relevant scientific information impacting the practice of preventive and curative dentistry.

Carrasco-Labra will work through the Council on Scientific Affairs to lead key projects including systematic reviews of evidence, clinical practice guidelines, management of the Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry website, and educational programs for member dentists, dental providers, and educational institutions. Prior to joining the ADA, Carrasco-Labra authored a series of 10 papers titled “A practical approach to evidence-based dentistry,” published in The Journal of the American Dental Association between 2014 and 2015.

“I am honored to join the ADA,” said Carrasco-Labra. “I’m looking forward to collaborating with the other ADA divisions to help serve members and improve the oral health of the public.”

Carrasco-Labra earned his DDS from the University of Chile and his MSc from McMaster University. He is also in the process of completing his doctorate in the Health Research Methodology Program at McMaster University.

Prior to accepting this position with the ADA, Carrasco-Labra served as the clinical practice guideline methodologist for the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization, the American Gastroenterological Association, as well as the governments of Saudi Arabia and Chile. He is an author of 51 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and coauthor of two books for practicing evidence-based medicine, including the Users’ Guide to the Medical Literature.
