The American Dental Association will feature a session on volunteering abroad at its upcoming Annual Session in New Orleans. The course, titled “I Do, I Teach, I Volunteer,” will teach attendees interested in providing their services to underserved populations about how to effectively volunteer internationally.

The free 2.5-hour course will be held November 1, 2013, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Marshall Gallant, DMD, and Jack Levine, DDS, two experienced global volunteers, will discuss how international volunteerism can support lasting, sustainable improvements to the oral health of communities in need worldwide.

The presenters will share strategies to improve oral public health in developing nations through education and training, personal perspectives on international oral health programs, and more. Sherwin Shinn, DDS, the 2013 ADA Humanitarian Award recipient, will be a guest speaker. The course is presented in cooperation with the ADA Division of Global Affairs.
