The company announced a 1.9% year-over-year increase in total revenues, alongside new product pilots including a custom 3D-printed sports mouth guard.
Align Technology Inc reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2026, highlighting total revenues of $1.015 billion, a 1.9% increase year-over-year. According to the company, the growth was primarily driven by the company’s clear aligner segment. In the report, Align also detailed new products it is developing and rolling out, including its NXT Technology 3D printing materials platform and a US pilot of the Invisalign Sports Guard, a custom 3D-printed sports mouth guard.
Leadership Transition
The earnings report comes as Align also announced a CEO succession plan. The company’s Board of Directors has appointed Jennifer L. Davis, former CEO of Procter & Gamble’s Global Healthcare business, as Align’s next president and CEO, effective December 31, 2026. Davis will succeed Joseph M. Hogan, who has served as president and CEO since 2015 and will retire from the Board of Directors following its strategy meeting on June 16, 2027. Davis will join Align as CEO-elect and a member of the Board on November 2, 2026, working alongside Hogan ahead of the transition.
Clear Aligner Volume and Revenue Growth
Clear aligner revenues reached $839.3 million in the third quarter, representing a 4.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Volume also grew by 6.6% year-over-year, totaling 690,600 cases.
Conversely, revenues from imaging systems and CAD/CAM services were $175.5 million, a 7.6% decrease year-over-year.
The company reported a GAAP gross margin of 68.7% and a non-GAAP gross margin of 70.4%. Operating margins were 16.7% on a GAAP basis and 24.4% non-GAAP. Diluted net income per share was $1.90 GAAP and $2.80 non-GAAP.
Record Shipments and Scanner Placements
“We delivered solid third-quarter results, with Q3 revenues and Clear Aligner volumes in line with our outlook and non-GAAP operating margin was above our prior guidance,” says Hogan, in a release.
Hogan noted that the volume reflects record doctor submitters, record third-quarter clear aligner shipments, improved utilization, and broad-based international growth. Notably, orthodontist shipments in North America saw a year-over-year increase after previous consecutive quarters of decline. Additionally, DSO shipments grew by double digits across both orthodontist and GP customers.
The company also expanded its digital footprint, with the number of global scanner units placed—including leased, rented, and certified pre-owned systems—increasing double-digits year-over-year to more than 157,000 systems.
New 3D Printing Technologies and Products
Align Technology detailed upcoming additions to its product portfolio, focusing on 3D printing advancements. The company highlighted its NXT Technology, a next-generation direct fabrication 3D printing materials platform designed for greater control and precision in appliance design.
The company is also expanding 3D printing applications with the Invisalign Specifix attachment system, which brings direct 3D printing capabilities to the attachment system itself.
Furthermore, Align is entering a new product category with the US pilot of the Invisalign Sports Guard, a custom, direct 3D-printed sports mouth guard created from an iTero scan.
“Sports mouth guards represent a large and growing market opportunity amid increasing awareness of concussion risks in contact sports. There is also significant overlap with our kids and teens demographic, and we expect it to drive awareness and utilization of Invisalign treatment through Invisalign doctors,” says Hogan in a release.
