Dentsply Sirona will continue its partnership with TeamSmile and has donated $135,000 to support oral care for underserved children.
Dentsply Sirona announced that the company will continue its longstanding partnership with TeamSmile and support the non-profit organization with a donation of $135,000. In addition, the company will bring employee volunteers to TeamSmile projects and events.
The donation will go towards providing underserved children with screenings and dental treatments at no charge and provide free oral health education resources. Dentsply Sirona will also be a Gold Partner for two upcoming TeamSmile programs in Charlotte, NC, where the company is headquartered, expecting to reach over 200 children per program.
TeamSmile, in its mission to reach children who would otherwise not have or seek access to oral health, said it was going to partner with professional sports teams. Popular athletes will use their star power to motivate children to come forward and learn about the importance of oral health and receive treatment if needed, according to the company.
“We believe in the important work that TeamSmile does and are proud to continue our partnership for the benefit of underserved children in our community. Being instrumental in increasing access to dental care and enabling much needed treatments for children in need is what has drawn us to this partnership,” says Andrea Frohning, chief human resources officer at Dentsply Sirona. “Together with TeamSmile, we make a real difference for children, creating healthy smiles and fostering the key understanding that a healthy mouth is essential for overall health.”
As a Gold Partner, Dentsply Sirona will continue to support two additional programs dedicated to children in need in Charlotte. These programs include free dental clinics at Bank of America Stadium, where children have the opportunity to meet football players from the Carolina Panthers while receiving vital dental care education and treatment.
“In areas where economic hardship is at its highest, oral health care is often not seen as a priority in the spectrum of preventative health care needs,” says John McCarthy, executive director for TeamSmile. “We are delighted that Dentsply Sirona continues to support our efforts to change this misconception, lending a hand not just financially but also through providing products and by volunteering work of Dentsply Sirona employees. Without partners like Dentsply Sirona, we could not offer such a broad range of dental care to children in need.”
In 2022, TeamSmile provided 4,500 children with oral health education and dental care services with a combined value exceeding $1.6 million. The initiative aims to make a tangible difference in the lives of underserved children, fostering healthy smiles, and reinforcing the understanding that oral health is an essential component of overall well-being.
