Shiny Smile Veneers conducted a survey to find which Halloween candies were the most damaging to teeth.
With Halloween around the corner, Shiny Smile Veneers surveyed 1,002 Americans about how candy has impacted their smile and named the 10 most dangerous candies for your teeth.
Over a third of Americans say they’ve had candy-related accidents that led to dental issues, the most common ones being teeth sensitivity, tooth pain, and damaged fillings and crowns, according to Shiny Smile Veneers. On average, Americans have spent $538.28 fixing their teeth after a dental accident caused by candy.
Aside from the obvious cavity causing potential of all sugary candies, some candies can cause damage to teeth by being too hard to eat, or too sticky.
From a dental perspective the top 10 most dangerous Halloween candies to receive are:
- Jawbreakers
- Jolly Rancher
- Bit-O-Honey
- Starburst
- Tootsie Roll
- Laffy Taffy
- Snickers
- Atomic Fireball
- Butterfinger
- Blow Pops
The survey also asked which candies were the most anticipated. with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, M&M’s, and Kit Kats, topped the list.
The worst rated candies were Candy Corn, Hot Tamales, and Atomic Fireballs, according to survey respondents. A more detailed breakdown of the results from the survey are available online.
