Figures released by the Saudi Orthodontic Society show that there is a high need for braces in the country. The figures reveal that up to 80% of children in Saudi Arabia need braces, according to an article at the Cosmetic Dentistry Guide Web site.

While wearing braces has become somewhat fashionable in some circles in the country, with children having them fitted without really needing treatment, the majority of children who need treatment are not getting it.

According to Ali Habib, a Saudi-based orthodontist, in an interview with Arab News, there is a genuine need for treatment as a result of genetic factors and a lack of awareness of dental health issues, which contribute to high rates of decay and tooth loss.
