Mike Golpa, DDS, a specialist in dental aesthetics in Las Vegas, was presented with the “Man of the Year” award during the Mrs. Globe and Ms. U.S. Globe pageants held in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The award was in recognition of his donation of dental makeovers to abused, low-income women.
Golpa’s efforts were recently acknowledged by Women In Need (WIN), a nonprofit organization that helps women break the vicious cycle of emotionally and physically abusive relationships and low self-esteem. Golpa donates a smile makeover to women who have completed WIN’s 20-week emotional recovery program.
“Having aligned myself with WIN has made an important difference in the lives of those who need it the most, but it has also changed my life as well,” says Golpa. “What I discovered is that the result of a smile makeover is breathtaking, even to me. It’s just an amazing feeling to see the difference in a woman’s confidence and self-esteem—even in the way she carries herself. Hopefully, there will be other dentists that will follow suit.”
By the end of this year, Golpa, with the help of Burbank Dental Laboratory, Burbank, Calif, will have completed 12 smile makeovers.
