In conjunction with National Orthodontic Health Month, and in time forHalloween, [removed]SmilesChange Lives (SCL)[/removed], Kansas City, Mo, is sponsoring [removed]candy exchange events[/removed] throughout the country togive kids healthy alternatives to Halloween treats and to allow them togive back to others. For the event, SCL partners with its orthodonticprovider partners who host the events.

A candy exchange allows trick-or-treaters to surrender some of theirHalloween candy in exchange for healthy alternatives. The candy willthen be shipped to troops overseas or local charities. The eventsinclude free games and activities for children and families.

"We’re looking forward to our second year participating in the SCL CandyExchange," said Zachary Faber, DDS, an SCL provider from Long Island,NY. "We collected more than 1,000 pounds of candy last year, and ourcommunity got very involved in the spirit of this event."

Last year the SCL’s candy exchange events collected a total of 6,000pounds of candy. This year, the SCL hopes to collect 10,000 pounds.
