3M Unitek, Monrovia, Calif, is offering a 2-day miniscrew certification course in Dallas, October 25 to 26, 2013. The course covers the placement and use of miniscrew implants (MSIs) in specific cases. The course will be led by Jason Cope, DDS, PhD. Cope will use his background in bone biology, in combination with basic biomechanics principles, to explain the fundamentals of miniscrew implant placement, loading, and use.

During the course, several specific cases will be treatment planned and analyzed mechanically to ensure that participants understand the ramifications of incorporating MSIs into clinical practice. Cope will walk attendees through the confusing nomenclature surrounding the “prescription” of miniscrews, indications/contraindications, treatment planning, sterilization protocols, surgical placement, biomechanical considerations, clinical applications, removal procedures, and potential complications.

The hands-on workshop is designed to give participants the confidence to place MSIs themselves, while the in-office live patient treatment demonstrates patient management in an office setting.
