Henry Schein Inc, Melville, NY, conducted the first live patient demonstrations of the i-CAT™ Cone Beam 3D Imaging System at the 2007 ADA Annual Session on Thursday, September 27 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Henry Schein is the exclusive distributor of i-CAT in the United States and Canada for Imaging Sciences International, Hatfield, Pa, a developer and manufacturer of advanced dental radiography products and 3D diagnostic imaging technology.

The Live Patient 3D Imaging Courses featured the i-CAT and three other technologies with dentists demonstrating how digital x-ray and 3D imaging can be integrated into a dental practice.

According to the company, the i-CAT Cone Beam 3D Imaging System produces immediate 3D images of patients’ critical anatomy, typically in less than one minute. The i-CAT provides complete views of all oral and maxillofacial structures in an easy to use, cost effective, in-office system that allows dental specialists to dramatically enhance their patient care in a variety of ways.

i-CAT features an open environment seated position, a typical scan time of 20 seconds or less, and significantly lower radiation doses than traditional CT scans. In addition, the immediate 3D reconstruction of a patient’s mouth, face, and jaw areas enhances doctor/patient communication by allowing doctors to share a visual diagnosis with their patients. This gives patients a better understanding of their treatment options and more confidence when going into treatment.
