uLab Systems announced enhancements to its web-based orthodontic software, including new digital tools and retainer workflow updates.

uLab Systems has announced updates to its uDesign Cloud platform and the reintroduction of its VIP uAssist program. The expanded cloud-based system is designed to provide orthodontic practices with streamlined options for planning, ordering, printing, and managing aligner and retainer workflows.

Updates to uDesign Cloud

The updates build upon uDesign Cloud 2.0, which introduced a browser-based workflow for Mac and PC users featuring self-planning and STL export capabilities for 3D printers. Recent and upcoming enhancements to the platform include integration with EasyRx, expanded one-click scanner integrations, and additional self-planning tools such as Global Movement, Pontic and Domes, and Space Management.

“uLab’s technical teams have stayed focused on listening to customers and turning that feedback into practical improvements they can use every day,” says Shawn Powers, chief information officer of uLab Systems, in a release. “Our goal is to give practices more flexibility without making the workflow more complicated.”

VIP uAssist and Retainer Workflows

Alongside the software updates, uLab is bringing back its VIP uAssist program, a premium treatment planning option that offers priority access, expert guidance, and personalized support for practices.

The company is also expanding its retainer workflow options with features designed for speed and convenience. These additions include Retainer Fast Track, the ability to ship to alternate addresses, custom-branded storage cases, and a new 8-retainer bundle allowing multiple shipments.

Additionally, uLab introduced a 1-year warranty on its Reva retainers. Reva is the material used to manufacture uSmile aligners and retainers in the US.

“Reva has been a strong addition to the uLab platform because it gives us a material that feels thinner while still performing the way we need it to,” says Dr Bill Layman, orthodontist, in a release. “What stands out to me is that uLab keeps building around real practice needs—not just treatment planning, but also faster retainer workflows, easier ordering, and more options for how a doctor wants to work.”

AAO 2026 Showcase and Promotions

uLab will present these updates at the 2026 American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Annual Session in Orlando, Florida. There, they will host a Lunch and Learn on Saturday, featuring Layman.

In conjunction with the upcoming AAO Annual Session, uLab Systems rolled out a series of promotional offerings designed to provide cost savings for orthodontic practices. The deals feature discounted Comprehensive Aligner Bundle Packages and significant markdowns on shopulab.com. Additionally available now through the event, practitioners can take advantage of Retainer Programs starting at $16.25 per retainer, 12- to 24-month savings through the Futures Program, and an Alliedstar Scanner Program launched in partnership with Voxel Dental.

“Orthodontists want technology that respects how they already work,” says Powers, chief information officer of uLab Systems, in a release. “Whether a practice wants to self-plan in the Cloud, use uAssist, print in-office, order manufactured aligners, or simplify retainer fulfillment, we are building a platform that gives them those choices in a more connected way.”
