In this episode of In the Sterilization Room with Jackie, we go back to the reason we started this series: COVID-19. While the virus has been a constant over the last 7 months, we wanted to focus in on the latest.

First up, infection prevention expert Jackie Dorst, RDH, BS, talks about the current surge in cases and what it means for the orthodontic practice. Her advice: Go into every appointment thinking, would I handle this case any different today if there is a chance my office could be under a state closure order again.

Next, we talk about the good news. Earlier this week, Pfizer announced that its vaccine trials are going well and that its vaccine candidate is showing 90% efficacy. Jackie breaks down what this means, including the logistics of vaccination and whether or not your team will be able to get vaccinated any time soon.

Finally, we look at what your practice should be considering if you want to offer COVID-19 testing. The ADA recently released a statement saying it supports dental practitioners providing point-of-care COVID-19 testing, as well as a document that lays out what this entails. Jackie talks about how orthodontic practices should proceed if they want to undertake this task. OP
