Focus on Delivery Systems

Your guide to what’s new in storage, handpieces, and more

Boyd Industries

Boyd Industries offers an automatic handpiece control for all delivery systems, including retraction systems. The automatic control saves time by eliminating the need to manually flip between two handpieces. The handpiece does not activate until it is lifted from its holder. The company is also using sand-colored tubing with its delivery units.

Proma

Proma offers its A-Series delivery system. The foundation of the unit is a pinch-control system that offers a lifetime warranty against failure for each block. The pinch-block system can be disinfected using household bleach mixed with water to achieve a CFU level below ADA recommendations. The Proma control system delivers drive air, water, and coolant air in a specific sequencing mode designed to eliminate the water dripping or run-on that occurs in other units. Atomizing the last waterflow before deactivating the air ensures a dry finish.

J. Morita USA

J. Morita USA offers its Spaceline EMCIA, which promotes a balanced posture by reducing operator stress and fatigue. The handpieces are positioned on the back of the chair below the headrest, and the switches are located on the backrest and tray. The chair’s thin design allows the clinician to work closer to the operating field, reducing body contortion. Additional features include warm air and water, and a low chair-height setting of approximately 18 inches.

A-dec

A-dec offers its 500® side and 12 o’clock (pictured) delivery units as part of a line of cabinet-mounted systems that keep the instrumentation out of patients’ direct view. Both systems feature a rotating and height-adjustable work surface with enough room to hold instruments. The assistant’s instrumentation rotates around the work surface, and with five pivot points, offers better visibility and improves body positioning, according to the company. On the Duo Delivery System, the orthodontist’s instrumentation moves independently of the work surface. It includes four pivot points, as well as individually adjustable instrument holders that improve positioning.

Dome

If you prefer to work sitting down, the tray for the keyboard and the mouse can be built into the countertop. The keyboard tray and countertop are angled and allow easy access to the handpieces, syringe, and vacuum. The drawer face for the tray provides wrist support while you type. A large, vented service door on the back allows easy access to the CPU. An internal plywood partition and a side-access door isolate the CPU from the plumbing utilities. If a flat-screen monitor is attached to the work surface, the wires can be concealed for a clean look. If you prefer to have the flat-screen monitor off the work surface, a variety of articulating arms are available.
