ProDrive Systems Inc, Montreal, has received a patent for its non-round dental bur and locking turbine from the US Patent Office. According to the company, when engaged, the system prevents rotation of the bur inside the turbine, resulting in greater torque transfer.
The system is a turbine upgrade and is compatible with the Kavo®, Midwest®, Sirona®, Star Dental®, and W&H® brand handpieces, allowing orthodontists to continue using their current handpieces. The device features double grooves along the burs and a lock mechanism designed to aid in bur retention.
ProDrive Systems has obtained patents in the US, as well as 37 international regions.
