Hu-Friedy, Chicago, has introduced a magnetostrictive ultrasonic scaler called SWERV3. The compact scaler features a “comfort zone” grip to reduce muscle strain.
The SWERV3 has a range of power settings that users can control with a touch pad and monitor with color-coded lighted displays, including a visual queue for identification of current settings. The scaler is designed to remove subgingival plaque, calculus, and harmfulendotoxins from the root surfaces. According to the company, ultrasonic instruments such as SWERV3 have alsodemonstrated, a beneficial lavage effect that dislodges plaque and other surface irritants slightly beyond thereach of the instrument’s tip.
