The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and AAO Foundation (AAOF) announced the passing of Robert W. Hazel, MA, CAE, CFRE, former executive vice president of the Foundation. Hazel, who retired in 2018 after serving the AAO as an executive for 26 years, died in St Louis on July 28 after a long battle with cancer.

“We are so sorry about Robert’s passing and extend our condolences to his wife, son, and daughter,” said Orhan C. Tuncay, DMD, president of the AAOF Board of Directors. “The Foundation will always remember his many years of dedicated service, his friendship and his great successes that led to support for many orthodontic academic leaders.”

Hazel was instrumental in the AAOF Board of Directors fundraising initiatives, primarily in support of junior faculty and efforts to support the Craniofacial Growth Legacy Collection Project.

The AAOF awarded Hazel the Eugene and Pauline Blair AAOF Distinguished Service Award in 2018.
