With the surge in infections from the Omicron variant, OSAP has decided to take the 2022 Dental Infection Control Boot Camp virtual.

The Organization for Safety, Asepsis, and Prevention executive committee of the board of directors has decided to offer the 2022 Dental Infection Control Boot Camp as virtual only.

The 2022 Boot Camp is taking place from January 24-26, 2022, but the committee decided to forgo an in-person event with a surge of infections from the Omicron variant.

“This rapidly-paced increase in cases promises to continue for the near future, making it likely these disruptions will continue through January,” the OSAP committee said in a statement. “This makes an in-person course in late January a challenging proposition for several reasons.”

According to OSAP, traveling to and from the venue, congregating with large groups, eating meals and restaurants, and other activities that would have occurred with an in-person event carry an increased risk of transmission with the current surge.

Coupled with travel disruptions throughout the country and quarantine requirements, the OSAP executive committee says that it did not want to be the source of a breakout involving essential healthcare workers.

Registration for the virtual 2022 Boot Camp remains open until April 1.
