DDS Lab, Tampa, Fla, has unveiled its OrthoVault online storage solution. According to the company, OrthoVault enables dentists and orthodontists to store patient study models securely online with the ability to access them at any time.DDS Lab_OrthoVault

Traditionally, study models are created for each orthodontic patient out of fragile plaster and physically stored for a minimum of 7 years. With OrthoVault, models or impressions are scanned to create a digital file that the practitioner can quickly and easily recall from OrthoVault’s web portal 24 hours a day. The models are further “perfected” by expert technicians to create the finished file. Finished digital study model files are uploaded to the system and are then available in half the time of a traditional plaster study model.

OrthoVault files are available for download through a web portal, making it easy to find and retrieve models now and in the future. The digital study models are viewable using a free software program, OrthoViewer, which allows dentists and orthodontists to manipulate their models in three dimensions and make any necessary measurements. DDS Lab also offers three-dimensional printing of OrthoVault files to create a durable resin model should a dentist or orthodontist need a physical model.

DDS states that its OrthoVault technology meets all the security standards for HIPAA as well as the FDA. Files are stored securely within the system’s SSL-encrypted databases. What’s more, the servers are regularly backed up to multiple locations to ensure data is always preserved.
