EcoClean USA, Los Angeles, now offers Genesisâ„¢, an on-site disinfectant generator for dental offices. According to a release from the company, Genesis takes regular tap water and minerals “and electrolyzes them” to create a “powerful but safe ‘hypochlorous’ disinfectant.”

Electrolyzing water dates back to the 1800s and is currently being used in many industries, including hospitals, food processing plants, and water purification facilities, to disinfect and sanitize. According to the company, unlike other dental and medical intermediate disinfectants labeled by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as “toxic,” hypochlorous generated by Genesis is labeled by the EPA as being “relatively non-toxic.”

The on-site disinfectant generator is aimed at giving dental professionals a cost-effective and green alternative to purchasing traditional disinfectant solutions.

Kill times for the Genesis range from 30 to 60 seconds for all organisms required by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the EPA.
