Smiles Change Lives (SCL), Kansas City, Mo, has named the recipients of its second annual Gini Awards, which the nonprofit gives to those who “go above and beyond in their role as volunteers.” The awards, named for Virginia Brown, founder of the organization, will be handed out to six individuals and two companies at a reception on October 14, in Kansas City.

Among the individuals being recognized are orthodontists Hilary Nieberg Baskin, DDS, Denver; Dustin Burleson, DDS, Kansas City, Mo; Randall Markarian, DMD, Southern, Ill; and Scott McCranels, DMD, West Palm Beach, Fla. Kansas City volunteers Carrie Hobart and Jan Tracy, who have provided marketing and design services, will also be honored

3M Unitek, Monrovia, Calif, and Children’s Mercy Family Health Partners (CMFHP), Kansas City, Mo, will also receive Gini Awards. 3M Unitek has been a substantial financial investor in SCL’s mission, while CMFHP, through its employee volunteer program, has provided both time and financial support to the organization.
