The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry (UAB) named an orthodontic professorship endowment in honor of Alabama orthodontist Bryant Speed.

The University of Alabama School of Dentistry at Birmingham (UAB) has named the Endowed Professorship for Orthodontics in honor of Bryant G. “Don” Speed, DDS.

Speed, who died in 2014, began practicing in Selma, Alabama, in 1967 and served as a professor at UAB from 1980 to 2011, according to a report in the Selma-Times Journal.

The university set a goal to raise $500,000 for the Dr. Don Speed Endowed Professorship for Orthodontics. The goal was subsequently met and surpassed, currently standing at $700,000.

Speed was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1935 and entered the UAB School of Dentistry in 1960.
